No, our products do not contain Palm oil which is a cheap alternative as a main ingredient in producing soap. Palm oil is not bad for you, what is bad is the natural forest being destroyed in replacement of Palm Oil plantations. See About us for more info.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the basis of all our soaps and a main ingredient in our current product range. Olive oil is a skin regenerator and a natural humectant (substance used to keep in moisture), drawing moisture from the air, keeping the skin soft and supple. The resultant soap that Olive oil produces when saponified is very mild and gentle.
Olive oil also contains Squalane which has the ability to help the skin retain moisture while nourishing and providing protection for all skin types, especially dry and sensitive. It is non-greasy and non-comedogenic, which means that it doesn't restrict or clog the pores in any way. Olive Squalene assists the skin's ability to naturally regenerate and feed itself. It is similar in structure to the skin's own Squalane composition and because of this, it is highly penetrative. Olive Squalane is similar to the squalane produced by our skin's sebaceous glands. Olives have the largest percentage of vegetable squalane. Human skin naturally produces squalane, which helps protect and lubricate skin. Olive squalane is a unique emollient refined from natural olive squalane that penetrates quickly and absorbs deeply. Squalane is believed to help promote cell growth and comfort dry and sensitive skin.
So, if Olive oil is so good for the skin and makes such good soap, why aren't all soaps, including handmade soaps made in this way?
The simple answer to this is that extra virgin olive oil is a very expensive commodity and for soap-makers outside the olive growing countries, it is very costly to import and to incorporate a high percentage in soap formulations. Unlike many substitute oils used in soaps and skin care products such as palm oil that is the prime reason for de-forestation of the planets rain forests, olive oil is highly sustainable, low impact and not subjected to manipulative scientific intervention as is the case with many crop derived oils such as rapeseed, sunflower and many others.
Cold process soaps are handmade through the saponification process which is the chemical reaction by which an alkali reacts with fats and oils to make soap. This is the most effective method to assure that all the nutrients in the ingredients are preserved in excellent condition and do not oxidise and decay. During the Cold Process method, all the natural glycerine which occurs during saponification is not being separated (as is done in hot process method). Natural, vegetable glycerine is an excellent moisturising ingredient. Unfortunately soap has received such a bad reputation in the past thanks to soaps created through the hot process method which have had the glycerine stripped, therefore leaving our skin dry and irritated. But if the glycerine is preserved in the soap, our skin obtains a moisturising breathable film which attracts moisture from the air and retains it.
Our handmade Cold Process soaps contains only pure natural oils, in our case, our cold process soaps are made exclusive from pure Extra Virgin olive oil (EVOO), not Palm Oil - EVOO is one of the most valuable skin care products known to man. The cold process production method gives our soaps the best possible result in foaming, texture and skincare. Cold Process method soaps cannot be mass-produced by machines in factories. Batches are smaller and the process takes a lot longer as the soap requires "curing time". Our soap is beneficial both to the skin as it is to the environment. It is eco-friendly, sustainable, and does not pollute the environment during any production stage or by its usage. It is biodegradable and certainly not tested on animals.
Sodium hydroxide is a strong alkali, and yes it will harm the skin if it comes in direct contact with it. This is why handmade Cold Process soap requires a lot of care and diligence. After all the ingredients react with each other, and saponification of the oils has occurred, there is no alkali left in the soap. All that is left is saponified extra virgin olive oil (Sodium Olivate) and glycerine. For this to happen, and all the alkali is neutralized, 6 to 8 weeks must pass so that the soap is ready for use.
Our Cold Process method soaps are entirely handmade (cutting, stamping, packaging) so, inevitably there are differences between each piece.
Our Lip Balms and the Replenishing Serum 8 have an expiry of 12 months from the date of package opening. All our other products, have an expiry of 24 months from date of opening. Natural products are more sensitive to light and heat, so please ensure that you close the lid tightly after applications and keep under 30o C.
For longer soap life, please allow the soap to dry between uses. The natural glycerine contained in our natural handmade Cold Process soaps attract moisture from the atmosphere, therefore, it is important to store your soap on a soap rack out of water between uses as it may become soft if continually exposed to moisture.
Yes they can - unless you suffer from a particular allergy from one of the ingredients in our products. Our handmade soaps are very mild and moisturising. If in doubt, start with our mildest soap - Purist (Pure Olive Oil), making it safe even for your little ones because it has no additives whatsoever! Your skin will feel clean, and refreshed. Enjoy the experience of a real soap, and let your skin convince you.
We understand that during pregnancy you want to take every precaution - and so you should. Skincare products you use during your pregnancy will be absorbed into your skin and can reach your baby. Our Replenishing Serum8 does contain Rosehip oil, Thyme, Sage and Rosemary extract which some internet sites do suggest avoiding during pregnancy. However, this usually refers to aromatherapy or applying the essential oil directly to your skin. Nevertheless, this is a personal preference. On the other hand, our Beeswax and Chamomile all-purpose balm would make a good alternative. Our EVOO soaps are very mild and gentle even for the youngest of skins. However, we do suggest you patch test first to check for allergies to any natural ingredients.
The Replenishing Serum8 contain ingredients you may find in a normal face serum, but without the water, emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives, artificial colours, and artificial fragrances. As with many serums, you need to use only a small amount - a few drops on the tips of the fingers is enough, and then massage over your whole face using gentle upward circular movements. If you find the oil hasn't been absorbed within a few minutes, gently wipe away the excess - you have applied a little too much. Within a few applications you will know how much you need to use.
